15/365 The Uncharted Expectations of Life

Okay-so how do all these things connect together?

The compass belonged to my father-I believe he received it as a boy. For the remainder of the time I worked as an architectural surveyor, this is what I used to plot direction. There were fancier gadgets of course, but this is what stayed in my pocket.

It worked great.

Originally, I had in mind, a dictionary page that showed the word “explore.” Instead, the 1943 Merriam Webster opened to this page. I did not look any further–I did not need to. While the definition is pretty cut-and-dried, when I saw the phrase, I took it to mean something much more. The box is old, but I chose it because of the plane. My father loved to travel; for him, the world was full of possibilities waiting to be discovered.

  1. What a wonderful grouping of objects and words, a nice homage to your father, just like the preceding image is a nice homage to your mother.
