135/366 Ditch Lily

One sign that summer is really here is the appearance of Ditch Lilies. I think they are also called Tiger Lilies, though I suspect this is the country cousin of those more refined orange day lilies. Whenever I see these, they bring back memories of Nebraska summers and the glorious sight of these growing wild, just begging to be picked. You would see them in gardens too, though my mother, passionate gardener that she was, considered them to be old-fashioned–though I do remember them as a staple in her father’s perennial garden.

  1. ‘Never heard the name, but I like it and it fits. I had always heard tiger lily. I have always loved them. We had many varieties of day lilies in our yard in GA. They are lovely. Good capture of this one. Burnt orange?
