273/366 In night when colors all to black are cast

Because I am crazy or have this overwhelming need for structure (or-let’s be honest-a little of both), I have decided to do another theme for this month. I am not a huge, huge fan of Halloween, but given how many other people are, I thought it might be interesting to do a 31 day project on that holiday. So it will be a little of Spooks and Haints and everything in between–I have no idea where this will go. And when possible I will be adding quotes or poems or whatever I might stumble across as I go along.

So here we go-

In night when colors all to black are cast,
Distinction lost, or gone down with the light;
The eye a watch to inward senses placed,
Not seeing, yet still having powers of sight,

Gives vain alarums to the inward sense,
Where fear stirred up with witty tyranny,
Confounds all powers, and thorough self-offense,
Doth forge and raise impossibility:

Such as in thick depriving darknesses,
Proper reflections of the error be,
And images of self-confusednesses,
Which hurt imaginations only see;

And from this nothing seen, tells news of devils,
Which but expressions be of inward evils.

  1. I do love Halloween, Meg! This photo reminds me of a street in Haddonfield where there might be a man in a William Shatner mask lurking behind a tree. It also reminds me of a scene from a David Lynch film. Nice work.
