293/366 We have no fear of you

This was taken in the front yard of a close friend’s house. Her husband loves Halloween and always does the house and yard up every year.

The poem is a little something different. An English poet and writer Winifred M. Letts wrote two Halloween poems in memory of the dead for the years 1914 and 1915. Her work, Hallow-e’en and Poems of the War is something to take a look at for those interested in the literature of the Great War. The poem excerpt used for this image is “Hallow-E’en 1915.”

  1. This photo is so cool! It is also highly creepy. The way you have shot the ghosts they appear to be floating in mid air like an apparition would do. The faded color of the photograph makes it look like an old 1970’s Polaroid.

  2. Wow, very creepy and ethereal image, excellent work! I’ll have to try and track down that book of poems — anything regarding the Great War grabs my attention. My maternal grandfather was in the Marines in France, survived a living hell. I have a whole shelf of books about the War to End All Wars. Your Halloween work is superb!

    • The poems are available online-they are in the public domain Bill and yes, you should check them out. Very good stuff. That is interesting about your grandfather. My father’s father was in France as a medic. We have a photo scrapbook of his time at Fort Riley and there are some images of his time in France. Thanks so much for stopping by-appreciate it always!
